Supporting healthy and stable communities is an essential aspect for achieving sustainable development. Several Projects are carried out under this program, aimed at facilitating the process of strengthening extremely vulnerable communities (poor, very poor, and displaced) through the provision of relief services, while offering integrated social services designed not only to meet fundamental needs, but empower individuals, families and communities toward improved conditions of life.
Health promotion & disease prevention
Housing & Habitat
The health program is developed from a primary health, out-patient, community-based approach, aimed to the poorest and most vulnerable populations, having as priorities: Health promotion and disease prevention in alignment with local and regional health policies. The project considers education in sexual and reproductive health with emphasis on prevention of HIV-AlDS and other STD’s. and advocate for equal access and non-discrimination in the provision of health services.
Units are mobilized into communities of people living in hazardous health conditions where the population has little or no healthcare. These teams of healthcare professionals and social workers, among others, voluntarily provide medical and dental attention, distribute medications, offering also legal, psychological and spiritual support
Adequate nutrition is specifically important during infancy and childhood, where even short periods of malnutrition have long lasting effects on growth, development, and health in adult life. Therefore, within the integrated approach to poverty eradication, Conviventia through its founding members promotes proper nutrition for infants and children in vulnerable communities affected by poverty.
The day-to-day participation in the program develops good eating habits which the children will carry on through adulthood and into the families that conform the community. The project considers also the provision of nutritional snacks, or family grocery packages, depending on the specific needs.
Having a decent house has a direct impact upon health and overall human advancement. By networking with local actors and promoting civic participation, Conviventias’ founding members facilitate access to housing improvement among extremely poor communities and in communities affected by natural disasters. The project focuses on the following main aspects:
House Upgrades – improving living conditions, appropriate privacy and decency, ease, and basic comfort to daily life using a self-help approach where the family participates in the upgrade and has the opportunity to learn life skills training in the process
Social Services – sharing knowledge and information with communities to improve their access to social services.
Healthy Homes – raising awareness and reducing the risk of housing-related health problems.
Overcrowding - Reduction of overcrowding in homes
